Storyteller in art Vol.2「終わりと始まりの一日」with 松本耕平

「Storyteller in art」

『AM?PM?』

『AM』

Storyteller in art Vol.1「Here and There」with Tomoka Watabe

This time, I was inspired from a work by Tomoka Watabe, painter.

She studied Japanese painting in college. Now, she makes drawings with paint for Japanese painting and abstract installations.

The work I was inspired is a drawing on glass.

It changes its expression depending on the viewing angle.

f:id:hagiya4423:20171125005234j:plain

I'm making a "star" in a small island country.

This island country is located in center of a big ocean.

There were less than thirty thousands people here.

Here, the climate is calm every season and there are few disasters.

I had been born in the island like this, grown up in the island like this, and working in the island like this.

One fine evening,  I was searching for peaces of glasses which had been washed up on a beach as usual.

"How about searching pieces of glass on the beach, and collecting them, then making a sphere shape object? When the work complete, I'll name it "star"."

One month before, I had come up this idea, and started to collect glasses.

Pieces of glass which are washed up on a beach are usually trimmed and frosted.

But, pieces here are not trimmed and clear. They look like just broken into pieces.

When I get glasses, I put them into a small empty can till it gets dark.

I have done it for a month.

Color of glass being penetrated by evening light is so interesting. They change its color depending on the viewing angle. I can see it for a long time.

The evening sky had complicated color, which is a patchy pattern of pink and orange.

I could see a island which is located over there clearly.

Across the sea, there was another island country,

It takes about 30 minutes by ship. Its size and population are similar to ours.

I had been to the island once with my family.

It was a trip. I had been a small child.

I had remember gazing the beautiful sunset from a hotel.

"Why this island shows different color of sunset from my island?"

I had thought, gazing the sun setting.

Probably, this was because of exciting of my first going abroad.

How things being looked is depending on how we are feeling or thinking.

I can't confirm my idea now.

Because people living this country are banned going to that island country.

"Hey"

I heard a voice behind me.

A woman stood there. She was wearing T-shirt, jeans, sneaker.

"Are you doing such a thing today, too?"

"Yes" I answered, seaching glasses.

"It looks endless."

She came to me and saw my can.

She worked at cafe till noon. After her work, she sometimes comes to the beach to take a walk.

We became friends through meeting here.

"You worked at cafe today, too?"

"Yes, boring, there are few people today, too."

She smiled, and bent down, and saw the beach."

"Hey, what do you want to do by doing such a thing?"

She always asks me, like greeting.

"It's praying."

"I can't understand."

"Ah huh."

"Yes, but, it's natural because we are others. Oh, I found."

We can't understand eat other because we are others.

I like her …

She picked up a piece of glass.

"We can see the island clearly."

She stopped piecing up glasses because she probably fed up wit it. She stood up and gazed that island.

"Totally."

"I hope nothing will happen."

"I hope, too."

She turned back, and looked up the sky.

The sky had been already dark. I couldn't see the ground.

"Ah"

She pointed the sky.

I turned to her, and look where she pointed.

I could see small lights floating in the sky.

Three planes were flying to that island.

"The island will become noisy, too."

"And a lot pieces of glass will come here."

"Yes."

Planes gradually came, and over our heads, and to the island.

We were seeing the direction where planes went.

After a while, she saw a piece of glass in her hand.

"Well, this is used for high-class brand furniture.

She showed me the piece. A name of that bland for furniture was written on the piece.

In this beach, there are a lot of things which are washed up because of an ocean current.

That piece of glass may be carried from that island.

"We can't buy furniture like that forever, can we?"

I spoke to her with half smile, but she was looking at the glass, then saw the island.

"Oh…"

Some lights flashed above that island.

Our bodies went rigid unconsciously.

We could see flashes on and off.

"How long does it last, do you think?"

I don't know, but, according to the news, there is probability for large scale bombing.

"Oh…"

That country was in a state of war.

I wondered how many furniture will  be broken by bombing today and how many pieces would be washed up on this beach."

She murmured disconnectedly.

She was with tears in her eyes.

"I don't know why, but, this scene makes me cry.

Her tears were running on her cheek.

She kept seeing over there without wiping them.

"Because, well, I can't say exactly, but…"

Finally, she started crying.

It's usual. She never see bombing without crying.

"Can you understand my feeling?"

She looked at me.

"I can't."

I couldn't cry. I couldn't understand her feeling.

As she had said, others can't understand each other.

She was praying in her own way.

Instead of crying, I was praying in my own way.

By making a "star" with glasses which had been destroyed and carried from that country.

For a while, I was looking flashes.

She stood up.

"Here"

She had picked up an orange piece of glass.

I bent down and took at the glass.

We saw the glass together for a long time,

She was crying, I was making a "star".

The color of this glass we were watching may be different.

It was not only because of the angle.

Storyteller in art

Blue, It was completely blue.

In the small garage of my house, shutter was closed.

There was a piece of paper which was A3 in size in front of me. It was painted all blue.

Was it sea, night, sky, or mind?

Or all of them? The blue looked absorbing everything.

Silent night, the air in autumn was cold.

I was shivering in my sweater.

Cold, but my heart was beating.

It started to wind outside.

The wind struck the closed shutter.

The voice of the world was howling in the night.

It was in noon today when I was 19 that I knew that  how a flower base is broken when I punch it.

I had got an e-mail just before. It said  that I had failed to get a work as a dancer..

This was the audition I had taken two weeks before.

Depressed, I had had many times.

Because of irritation, I punched a base in my room.

The base had been broken into a piece with a big sound.

When my mother  came to my room, I stood with back of my hand bleeding.

After I had had my mother put an adhesive bandage on back of my hand, I sat in my room without thinking something for a while.

When it became evening, I saw a world map on my room's wall.

That's why,

That's why I ran out of my house and went to a store for painting materials to buy blue paint .

And then I went into the garage with the map.

I painted the map all blue.

Paint was scattered on the floor and my sweater.

Continents were all sunk into blue.

It was fine.

If I keep seeing one continent, I can't go another one.

I could hear sound of the rattling shutter.

The world was howling like shivering.

The creaking sound of the world sounded sad.

I danced with the sound, the world.

Dance, in the lonely sea, night, sky,and mind!

My feet was hopping on the floor of the garage and the blue world map.

Blue paint was not still dry, so my feet was getting blue,.

Dance, in the lonely sea, night, sky,and mind!

The wind had stopped.

The world also had stopped howling.

Only my breath and heart beating sounded in  In the garage like being in someone's womb.

I peeled off the bandage on my hand.

I saw my hand wounded.

.

A drop of blood fell on the blue world map.

#13「Red」

f:id:hagiya4423:20171117011053j:plain

#12 "The Duty"

f:id:hagiya4423:20171110155422j:plain

I have been on an egg.

For about 2 months.

On that night,  I was walking to go back home from my office as usual.

That day was a boring day as usual.

When I was thinking about sarcastic comments made by my manager and half price delicatessen in supermarket, I suddenly  lost consciousness.

And then, I found myself being on the egg.

The radius of the egg was more than 3 meters.

I didn't know where the place was.

The egg was put on the center of a small concrete room.

There was a stepladder beside the egg.

I climbed down the stepladder and I found a piece of paper. It said"The Instruction Manual".

Another thing I could find in the room was only futon.

I looked out from the only window this room had.

The greenfield spread as far as the eye could see.

A little Far away, there was a river flowing slowly.

I wondered where it was.

My phone's battery was over.

I checked "The Instruction Manual"

"A spirit is in the egg

It is to protect us.

If it failed to be born safely, we would be ruined.

Somehow, YOU have to hatch the egg safely.

You can do it!!"

What did it mean?

"You can do it"? It was totally fool!

But I couldn't do another thing. So, I decided to sit on the egg to hatch safely.

At first, I was anxious about foods. But, oddly enough, I haven't felt hungry at all.

I could drink water from the river.

Without me, a spirit couldn't be born, and "we would be ruined".

I feel I have to stop it by myself.

I don't know if I am included in "we".

This responsibility is bigger than that of my work.

I don't know why, but , it reminds me of school lunch duty in elementary school.

I wonder when will the egg hatch.

I guess it perhaps takes many years, because it is so big.

But I don't care.

I can do it.
